About Driftwood Psychotherapy

Driftwood Psychotherapy was founded by Joshua Wong, RP, RMFT, MDiv, a therapist in Barrie, Ontario, offering in-person and virtual therapy across Ontario.

The practice is grounded in trauma-informed therapy, EMDR, relational therapy, family systems work, and neurodivergent-affirming care.

But the work is not built around one strict model.

We pay attention to what is actually happening for you.

  • What patterns keep showing up.

  • What feels stuck.

  • What helped you survive.

  • What no longer fits.

  • What are you ready to understand differently?

Driftwood is creating a space where people can slow down, be honest, get curious, and begin making sense of themselves without having to perform.

A Neurodivergent-Affirming Practice

A lot of people come to Driftwood because they are navigating ADHD, autism, late-diagnosed neurodivergence, masking, burnout, or the experience of feeling different for a long time without fully knowing why.

There is lived experience behind the work, especially around neurodivergence. That can matter when you are tired of explaining yourself, masking, or trying to make your experience sound acceptable before it is taken seriously.

At Driftwood, neurodivergence is not treated as a defect to erase.

It is part of how we understand identity, relationships, nervous system safety, burnout, adaptation, and the kind of life you actually want.

How Therapy Works Here

We are not here to hand you answers from above. We are here to get curious with you.

That means slowing things down enough to notice what is actually happening, in your body, in your relationships, in your reactions, and in the stories you have learned to tell yourself.

Sometimes therapy means processing trauma directly. Sometimes it means understanding why conflict feels so hard. Sometimes it means noticing how much of your life has been shaped by survival, masking, pleasing, overfunctioning, or trying not to need too much.

We do not rush to fix anything. We start by making room for what is true.

What We Value

Safety

We start by building enough safety to tell the truth at a pace your system can handle.

Curiosity

We get curious about what happened, what helped you survive, and what it may be costing you now.

Relationship

When old patterns show up in therapy, we can notice them, name them, repair, and try something different.

Honesty

We believe therapy can be compassionate without being vague, harsh, or pretentious.
